We love tournaments.
Given our focus is on player development and not team-league play, you might think we’re not interested in competition. Not so! And tournaments are our answer.
Tournaments are great for their flexibility of scheduling and for the range of competition our players get to experience in one day of competition. Just destroyed a team? Well, get ready to get tested next.
Here’s the result from the the two teams we had competing in the Soccer Coliseum’s 5v5 Winter Blast on Dec 4, and see below for more:
Our U9 team played in a U9/U10 division, and though they won just one of their four games, all of them were competitive. Win or lose, playing against new competition and older competition is critical to building skills. We want to thank the players, Monty, Niko, Valeria, Keller, Landon and Mia, and their families for their hard work and dedication to local soccer.
Our U14 team played in a U14/U15 division. They played beautifully, resulting in wins in all 3 games at the group stage, including an unbelievable come-from-behind victory against a team of all '08 players, before falling in the semi-final game to another excellent, older team. Our team had one '11, three '10s, and two '09s. We thank the players, Nick, Augie, James, Ethan, Dom and Isaac, for showing up so strong, and staying strong, at this event.
More tournament results from the past year:
Fox Academy 3v3 on Nov 11. This was FSAs first attempt at running a 3v3. It was very interesting. With an emphasis on player responsibility, they had no refs. This worked out pretty well other than my nearly getting into a fight with another coach. The kids handled it. We entered two U9 teams and one U13 team. We took 2nd and 4th place with our younger teams and 3rd place with our oldest team.
3v3 Live July 16 &August 14. We love 3v3Live. We tried it for the first and went back for more a month later. Can’t wait for the new season to start up. 3v3 is about as pure as the game gets. A fun thing about Live is they do these all over the country so they’re building a national database of teams. After our first 2 attempts, here’s our rankings:
Our 2007 team is ranked 65 nationally
Our 2010 team is ranked 32 nationally
Our 2013 team is ranked 75th

*We did one more tournament this year with our 2010s and took 1st place.
