As we come to the close of the final week of the winter season, it’s time again for a look back and forward. Let’s start with Up Next.
Up Next
The regular season may be over but we’re not done yet. Get ready for La Finca Fest March 20-21! We’re celebrating our inaugural season with a game-packed festival. Saturday March 20 is for all the kids — the Peewee program and the 6 - 13 groups. The 21st is for the teens, high schoolers and adults. Exhibition games, skills demos, food, merch, music and more!
Be sure to pick up a program flyer at our final clinic on Saturday, March 13. Also going out by email this week.
Then, keep an eye out about the future. We’re meeting with the Marbletown Town board on March 24 to pitch the idea of moving the court to the basketball blacktop at the same town park. This would entail laying down a specially designed sports flooring that’s safe to play on and lined for both futsal and basketball (and also great for all kinds of playground games).
What we’ve done
This winter season we held 36 outdoor training clinics for local kids from New Paltz to Kingston, aged 4 - 13!
This past week 10 year-olds Isaac & Rowan lead the 6-9 group and 13 year-olds Noah & Alan trained the 10-13s. Wyatt, also 10, held down the 6-9s with amazing grace on his own on Thursday. Go Wyatt!
We made lasting memories this month with the visit from freestyle champ, Alex Ober, who joined us for 4 sessions. Sending a big, shoutout THANK YOU to Alex.
Lastly, in case you missed it, La Finca was featured in the March 5 edition of our local paper, the Blue Stone Press. Our neighbor, John Kotsides, also wrote a letter to the editor about La Finca to give a proper shoutout to Town Supervisor, Rich Parete and Town Parks & Recreation Director, Jill McLean, without whom none of this would have been possible. Letters to the editor are a great way to show your support for initiatives like this. And with the Spring season in the hands of the town board now, it’s a good time to let them know how you feel.
The Future
While the details of the Spring season remain unknown, Roberto and I have so many plans in the hopper we can assure you, you’ll be hearing more about La Finca soon.
If you haven’t signed up for a soccer program this Spring yet and you have questions about the options, reach out any time.
Support
We want to thank our 3 newest business sponsors, the Hasbrouck House, Waddell Construction and Audrey’s Farmhouse + the Greenhouses.
The good news is, WE DID IT! I’m very pleased to report we managed to run the entire winter program with the donation support of our community and thereby proven it’s possible to build a pitch from the ground up and offer an open youth program without a fee-for-service model.
Roberto and I want to offer the sincerest thanks to everyone who made this possible!
Big THANK YOU to all La Finca Business Sponsors of winter 2021:
Audrey’s Farmhouse + the Greenhouses, All Motor Cars, Cabinet Designers, The Eggs Nest, Fresh Air Reality, Global Dwelling, The Hasbrouck House, MyTown Marketplace, Stockade FC, and Waddell Construction
